Will a marker be left on the mountain?

No. The mountain itself is the memorial. The cremated remains will be discreetly scattered. The next climbers to summit the mountain will see no trace that we have been there. After the next rain the remains will become part of the mountain.

Can this be done on any mountain?

No. Some mountains have rules against leaving human remains on the top. Some mountains are on private property and permission may or may not be granted. Please contact us to find out if the mountain you have in mind is a possibility and we will let you know or do some research to find out.  We currently only offer services in the Continental United States.

Can I change my mind after I have mailed the remains?

Yes. We will ship them back to you if you change your mind before the remains are scattered and refund the all money paid minus shipping fees. After the remains have been scattered they can not be recovered or returned.

Can I pick the date the when the scattering will occur?

We can come up with an approximate date, but the date cannot be guaranteed. Several factors can delay the climb the weather being the main potential impediment.

Is this an airplane scattering?

No. We climb the mountain and spread the remains directly on the mountain.

Can I come along?

This service exists for those that are not able to climb mountains for numerous reasons. If you wish to personally scatter the remains we can obtain a permit (when needed and if possible) for you and then recommend a qualified guide to assist you on your climb.

How long will it take?

For safety we do not climb most mountains in the winter. We reserve the right to wait up to a full year to scatter the remains. Some climbs may be unsuccessful and another attempt will need to be scheduled. You will receive regular updates or just be informed when the climb happens according to your wishes.

Why does the cost vary so much?

It is based on the difficulty of the climb and the amount of permitting required. Some states require more paper work than other states.
We know this is expensive for most people. Especially when compared to doing it yourself for free. But compared to purchasing a niche in a mausoleum it may be a more affordable alternative. We are not trying to be the low cost option, we aim to be the best option for you and to provide a high quality personalized service.
